Ivy Chen – Music Director, Piano, Theory Instructor of Vienna Music in Bayside New York
Ms. Chen started her piano and violin studies at age of five. By age of six, she got accepted as double major into Kuang Jen Elementary School’s music experiment division and began her professional music training. By age of eight, she completed all levels of Yamaha Examinations. Ms. Chen had won many piano competitions in Taiwan; including first prize Kawai International Piano Competition in Young Artists Award, and first prize in Yamaha International Piano Competition.
Ms. Chen won first prize piano concerto competition in her first year pre-college in Mannes preparatory division, and she also got accepted to Juilliard pre-college for her studies with Victoria Mushkatkol. She completed her bachelor degree at Mannes College of Music as a scholarship recipient, studied piano with Ms. Pavlina Dokovska. She is currently pursuing Master degree in Music Education.
As an active solo and chamber musician, Ms. Chen’s New York appearances include concerts at Carnegie Weill Hall, Paul Hall, Steinway Hall, Flushing Town Hall, the Church of the Holy Trinity, as well as in Taiwan’s National Concert Hall. She has performed
and participated at the BIMFA International Music festival and performed in Master Class under the direction of renowned pianists.
Ms. Chen sets her goal to become a professional music educator early in her career. Being an educator itself is a tremendous responsibility, which requires not only knowledge to the subject but also the capability to adapt suitable ways of approaching in teaching music, which requires experience. Having great passion in passing the torch, she understood the studies in professional music conservatory was not enough for her to become a great educator, hence she started her teaching career at young age in 2002.
Ms. Chen distinguished herself as a thoughtful musician and educator. During her 11 years of professional teaching career, Ms. Chen has instructed more than 100 students and has hold numerous of music recitals for her students throughout the course of time. With her extensive teaching experiences both in private lesson and in music institutions, Ms. Chen sets a very high standard for Vienna Music, because she believes learning environment is the key for proper education. Ms. Chen is specialized in instructing students who plan to take certified examination (NYSSMA and ABRSM); and guiding students who intend to apply music conservatory and becoming music professionals.
Her students have achieved high marks in NYSSMA and ABRSM grading exam, and accepted to professional music conservatories.
